- Wanna know what jazz drummers were actually playing in in the 40s, 50s and 60s?
- THIS!!
- Extremely RARE actually Hand Hammered Vintage 1950s ZILDJIAN Factory Stamped BOUNCE RIDE in terrific shape.
- Yes. Factory Stamped ”BOUNCE.” Faded by Father Time but you can still see it.
- This cymbal was forged when jazz music was in its heyday. The late 1950s and early 1960s. It’s well over half-a-century old. Think about that! That’s crazy!
- I’ve only seen about 2 or 3 of these in my life. The idea behind the BOUNCE ride wad to have an increased, rapid and responsive stick attack for quick tempos and well-defined sticking and articulation.
- This rare beauty has a robust, rounded bell for an 18” and a fantastic light complex stick attack. The profile is medium steep for an organic, golden complexity. And its smaller size makes it respond quickly and remain controlled.
- As many of you may know, the 18” was a very common-sized Ride cymbal back in the day - especially on smaller jazz kits with 18” and 20” kicks. Jazz drummers didn’t wanna carry a 22” in a cab.
- The Hand Hammering on this 18” is gorgeous - the surface is rippled and looks Istanbul K adjacent.
- Weighing in at 1524 grams it plays like a Light Complex Medium Thin Crash Ride. And that’s a terrific combination for a smaller 18” size. It’s controlled but definitely has enough weight to offer a focused and pin-point warm attack to cut through a mouthy horn solo!
- Golden with a great response. Medium-low pitch. Very solid bell. Cuts nicely with a definite attack but still remains controlled, compliments of the smaller size.
- Generous bell cuts extremely well for an 18”.
- Great Crash accents when riding. Very full when laid into at the edge.
- Great shape. Light golden patina has graced it over the last 65 years.
- This 18” Zildjian BOUNCE Ride is not only a joy to play, it’s a piece of American musical history.
- If you want the vintage sound, go to the source.
- This Zildjian is definitely THE SOURCE!!
