Ok, sometimes you have an idea and you just need to see it come to fruition!
Viola!! It took me years to find these matched! The ORIGINAL Sabian Jack DeJohnette Top Hihat with the Jack DeJohnette ENCORE Bottom Hihat to make a pair of cymbals that most likely only Jack DeJohnette has.
Finding any these cymbals is pretty damn hard today. But they sound so damn great it was worth the effort.
This pair perfectly blends the best of both versions!
These specific 14s” have a rare mixture of dry, crisp, extremely articulate but they’re surprisingly organic. They’re tight but not metallic or brittle. They’re a rare combination of crisp and a pinch smoky. The opposite of Brilliant. Just a pinch.
The dynamo behind a colorful pallet of unique cymbals and sounds, it’s no wonder Jack threaded the needle between two traditionally opposite tones.
Natural 25+ year old patina blanketing a factory Pre-Aged Sandblasted Finish on that bottom cymbal (yes, long before the Meinls) with a 1193 over 1518 gram weight for a phenomenal sounding CHICK tone.
Of course they excel in jazz, but they breathe life into anything with soul. Not like anything else on the market - but what else would we expect from such a legend.
I’ve never seen this pairing before, and most likely won’t ever see it again. Beautiful and a lot of fun to play.
