- These are some of the best hihats I have right now.
- Say you like Red Garland, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Duke Ellington, as I do. Or Art Tatum. Or the Everly Brothers. Or Patsy Cline. Early Elvis. Eddie Cochran.
- Now say you want some actually Hand Hammered Hihats that call to mind something beautiful and soulful and emotive - like those artists and that music.
- Just go to a big box store and get some….some…..some Hihats that sound NOTHING like Vintage Zildjians.
- For whatever reason cymbal companies have not been able to capture the tone of these over half-century-old original Zildjians….although they keep trying to.
- And keep charging $600+ for their attempts.
- Fortunately, no one needs to try to “re-create” a damn thing! This pair of 1950s Hand Hammered 14s” just IS!
- Just create! And save money while doing it too.
- This particular pair is dark, VERY DRY and smooth sounding with a great articulation.
-
846 and 944 grams. That’s pretty damn thin but the beauty of this particular pair is that they play like thin to medium thins. Almost like LIGHT New Beats. And on 50s Zildjians. That’s a gorgeous thing.
- DRY from decades of aging and patina. Dark and whispy with a balanced mellowness. Light, splashy, and airy when opened like on a Count Basie record. Light RINGO slosh when opened. This is the tone!
- These are the hats that launched thousands and thousands of recordings - in all different styles too.
-
No issues at all. Absolutely amazing 70-year-old patina.
- Thin but with enough presence to cut more than most 50s cymbals. One of the best sounding hihats you’ll have.
- This is THE SOUND! No more shopping for replicas and reproductions and re-designs. This is it.
