Ahhh.  A Holy Grail Vintage 1978 Paiste 602 FLAT RIDE THIN in the rare and immortalized 18” size! 

Classic “Now He Sings, Now He Sobs” Roy Haynes sound! And nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find this original!! 

And from 1978!! Classic ECM  tone too. Nothing else like it! Ultra clean sounding with a pinpoint, crystalline definition. It’s iconic. 

Weighing in at a lovely 1526 grams, this Rare Paiste plays like a Classic Vintage Black Label THIN Flat Ride. The edges are bendable. The stick definition is EXTREMELY strong - compliments of the absence of a bel but still the edges WOBBLE. That’s the joy of the FLAT THIN!

The overall vibe is SMOOTH, SHIMMERING AND GLASSY, and definitely MELLOW (just like the recording.) Being a Paiste 602 Flat Ride, the ensuing wash is shimmering, subtle and very controlled. 

Outfitted with 3 rivets. Like playing a soft rain. Very subtle. Perfect.

The last half-a-century has mellowed this Paiste beautifully. 

Very hard to actually find! NOT the “Re-issue” but the actual ISSUE!  Collectible.  And definitely playable. Why pay $600 for the new big box store version.
