  • Reminds me of a THIN SABIAN RADIA…
  • Here’s a gorgeous Istanbul with a Raw bell and unique, serrated style factory brushed finish. Very dry and complex sounding! There are not a lot of cymbals like this out there.

  • This 18” is fascinating - bendable edges and it opens up very quickly but surprisingly makes an amazing semi-dry 18” ride!

  • For those who don't know, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez has played with myriad artists from Dizzy Gillespie to Santana!

  • Here's Istanbul’s take on this beauty:
"Designed for Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, the El Negro series by Istanbul Mehmet has a sound and appearance as unique as Horacio's playing. The Light Ride Cymbal features a specially brushed finish with an unfinished, compact bell. The cymbal offers a softer tone and wash which is perfect for jazz and ambient styles of music."

  • And there you have it! That is accurate!

  • Weighing in at a lovely 1374 grams, this Mehmet El Negro plays like a gorgeous Complex Thin to Medium Thin Crash. But it has this inimitable dry complexity to it.

  • As a smaller ride cymbal, this particular Mehmet is wonderfully well-balanced. The stick definition is prominent, compliments of the brushed finish which dries and mellows this Light Ride out.

  • And the Raw bell provides wonderful color and cut while the Hand Hammering gives it a hint of complexity.

  • Complex, fast attack and decay, slightly dry and controlled but with all the joy of that Turkish Hand Hammered love rumbling underneath.

  • You can use this harder to find Istanbul El Negro for absolutely anything.

  • Perfect for very soft to medium loud settings.

  • And not an easy cymbal to find! But a lot of fun to explore and play.
