  • Originally from the Zildjian’s Concept Shop - which means they borrowed the idea from someone else.  Hahahaha.

  • But now in the catalog! Fortunately you don’t have to guess at what it sounds like. 

  • You can hear this rare Zildjian before you buy it. And this specific one is very dry and organic! 

  • The FX RAW CRASH Small Bell 20”.  Or 19”. Or 21”! As you can see, it’s not exactly a circle and that’s the point! Each one of these unique pieces is a slightly different size with factory wobbly edges and measuring slightly different sizes. It actually measures about 21” diagonally and 19” across. 

  • As you can see, it’s a Salvador Dali inspired square. 

  • DRY. Complex. Dark. Earthen. Organic.  1928 grams. 
  • The edges are like a Thundersheet, but you can PLAY it. Extremely responsive. 

  • Its raw, unlathed surface gives it a very dry stick attack - perfect as an alternate ride.

  • Play it right-side-up or upside-down. 

  • Here’s what Zildjian has to say about this FX Small Bell:
    “Dry and unrefined, the Raw Crash is explosive but shuts down quickly, and also works as an alternate ride that is dry and cutting.
    Raw Crashes are some of the most unrefined and funky cymbals we've ever produced! Each Raw Crash starts from Zildjian's secret alloy and is rolled, tempered, cupped and sandblasted for a sound and look that's unlike any other cymbal. Raw crashes are untrimmed – roughly 20” - 23” in diameter, and irregular in shape – making each Raw Crash a truly unique instrument.
    The small bell version of the Raw Crash delivers a controlled and dry sound. The large bell Raw Crash opens up very quickly with an explosive crash, but is dry enough that it shuts down and gets out of the way very quickly. The Raw Crash is also a great choice for an alternate ride cymbal. Its dry qualities produce good stick definition that cuts nicely over an underlying, funky growl.”

  • There you go.  This is the kind of cymbal Zildjian never makes so it’s cool to see being less conservative.
