Like a Paper Thin Earth Ride! This newer HHX FIERCE 21” was hand picked for its specific and eccentric dry stick attack. This particular HHX Fierce has a slightly different quality than most. Even at break-neck tempos articulation remains supreme.
And then there’s that crash - it sounds like it has a built-in gate!
Sabian describes this top of the line HHX as:
“Designed for Jojo Mayer. A complex blend of raw tone and semi-dry ‘tah’ stick sound combines for a fierce yet controllable ride.”
And that is accurate. However this particular 2230 gram one sounds unlike any of the other I’ve ever heard. It’s very dry and articulate but still has a fantastic crashability. It’s a bit less trashy than most. But it remains earthen and organic.
It’s amazing you can have a cymbal anchor down the driest end of the spectrum, and yet still be this versatile.
