- Here’s an absolutely fantastic sounding versatile 22” - and Sabian thinks so too because they charge $500 for it new.
- Yes! That’s not a typo. These are $500 for a big box store guess at tone.
- But you need suffer such a financial broadside! Far from it in fact.
- And you can actually HEAR this cymbal before you buy it.
- Sabian AAX OMNI 22” Multi Ride Crash or a Crash Ride.
- A testament to Sabian’s love of innovation and support for their artists! Jojo Mayer was the inspiration behind this gorgeous dual surface wonder!
- This is a fascinating cymbal that is reminiscent of the DUO series with a dual surface and an unique weight distribution.
- Paperthin edges that bend with ease and make this AAX extremely responsive and complex. Raw and unlathed bell with some weight behind it to cut and project well.
- Sabian describes this Jojo Mayer designed Omni as:
“Designed with Jojo Mayer, the Omni delivers the ultimate in sonic contrast. Its two distinct playing surfaces (medium un-lathed center, and thin outer area) provide total versatility. Crash or Ride? You decide!”
- And you can also decide not to shell out damn $500 for a big box store stock photo.
- 2462 grams - with most of that weight centered around the raw bell for riding capability.
- As a Ride this OMNI is surprisingly dry. The stick definition is terrific and the wash is very controlled. Great clarity but with more warmth than the Fierce Ride.
- As a Crash - the edges are very thin so this particular big 22” crashes with ease. So responsive that you can use this with hand percussion. The edges bend easily.
- Dry but with a light complexity but still clean. Broad dynamic range. Cuts quite well - opens quickly, fast attack with a fairly quick decay. Dry and cutting raw bell.
- As versatile as the man who inspired it.
- Great shape with a patina just starting to build naturally and a typical slight wavy edge (it’s Paperthin bendable.) A gorgeous 22” cymbal that can occupy many positions on a kit - and that’s the point.
- And you can hear it before you buy and save a lot of money!
