Some of my favorite hihats: Sabian JACK DEJOHNETTE 14” ENCORE Hihats. And they’re very hard to find, that is, outside of Jack DeJohnette’s clutches!
And this is the THINNEST pair I’ve seen in this series.
These specific 14s” have a rare mixture of dry, crisp, extremely articulate but they’re surprisingly organic. They’re tight but have a dry complexity. They’re a rare combination of crisp and smoky. The opposite of Brilliant.
The dynamo behind a colorful pallet of unique cymbals and sounds, it’s no wonder Jack threaded the needle between two traditionally opposite tones.
Natural 2 decade-old patina blanketing a factory Pre-Aged Sandblasted Finish (yes, long before the Meinls) with a 936 and 1292 gram weight for a phenomenal sounding CHICK tone.
Of course they excel in jazz, but they breathe life into anything with soul. Not like anything else on the market - but what else would we expect from such a legend.
Mellowed and aged to perfection. And long discontinued.
